    Dear ANN friends,

What Does Covid-19 have to do with adult numeracy?

I invite you to explore the answer to this question with the help of to two special issues of ZDM Mathematics Education made available to you and your networks for FREE through the end of July.

These resources come to us from one of ANN's founding members, Iddo Gal, through his connection with Gabriele Kaiser, Editor-in-Chief of ZDM Mathematics Education, and Springer, an international publisher making available for free these two issues.

Iddo notes, "As a background (interesting how this world works...), this is part of a broad Springer initiative - with the encouragement of some editors, they decided to open up multiple issues in some journals. At ZDM, the 'numeracy and vulnerability' special issue was at the top of the editor's list (they had 14 issues to choose from, and only two could be made free, so this is a nice affirmation for the importance of our field from the Editor's point of view - She was one of the 3 guest editors as well, in a dual role, and discovered this world and got excited)."

Below is a summary and link for each academic resource. Please feel free to share this information with others in your network.

Free Access to Volume 52.3: Numeracy and Vulnerability in Adult Life

     (or follow: https://www.springer.com/journal/11858/updates/18143932)

    • This issue includes 16 papers focusing on numeracy and learning of mathematics in both formal and informal contexts by adults or young adults, with special attention to needs and educational work regarding adults who are deemed 'vulnerable', from a lifelong perspective going from youth throughout the life cycle to elderly populations. The articles were co-authored by members of ANN, ALM, MES (Mathematics in Society) and related groups, from around the world (including from the USA).

Free Access to Volume 52.2: Expertise in Developing Students' Expertise in Mathematics

      (or follow: https://www.springer.com/journal/11858/updates/18143960)

    • This issue examines and reflects on teachers' professional knowledge and expertise in promoting effective learning in mathematics education. The 13 papers in this issue report on various explorations of the competences of teachers and their influence on the pathways and the richness of mathematical activities they implement in the classroom, and the resulting impact on the quality of teaching offered to diverse types of students.

Iddo also mentioned that ZDM just got accepted into the prestigious Web of Science's Social Science Citation Index, with an Impact Factor = 1.256 for 2019.

Many thanks to Iddo for connecting us to these amazing resources!
