Description: The work around Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education (CRSE) is imperative. At its core CRSE embraces students’ identities as a source of knowledge and gives representation to more diverse voices and to marginalized communities.  Compared to the extensive work done in K-12 and adult higher education, the breadth of research for community-based organizations and non-formal educational settings is limited (Jones, J. 2021). This institute will serve as a vehicle for critical reflection,  enhancing adult educators’ knowledge, tools, and pedagogical strategies to create culturally responsive environments in the adult education classrooms.

Topics addressed by this institute will include:

  • Theoretical foundation
  • Bias and microaggressions
  • Building classroom culture
  • Pedagogical  practices
  • Planning anti bias and antiracist instruction
  • Participatory practices
  • Culturally responsive  assessments
